Why nurses enjoy working at Habit OPCO
Our staff nurses assess the patient, administer medication, provide patient and community education and are integrally involved in
treatment planning, among other duties. We also asked our nurses why they enjoy working at Habit OPCO, and here is what they
said:
1. | No forced overtime! There simply aren’t 2nd or 3rd shifts.
2. | No heavy lifting
3. | Far less rotation of coverage than in hospitals or nursing homes
4. | Far fewer technical issues with which to be concerned (e.g., no IV’s, cardiac cath lines, no need to suction, no checking for G tube placement, etc.)
5. | Far fewer “codes” to attend
6. | The narcotics/sharps count is much more manageable
7. | Rewarding work with patients on an outpatient basis including the opportunity to utilize psychosocial nursing and patient education skills
8. | Family hours (e.g., early in and early back home to be with children after school)
9. | Opportunity to provide community education and participate on community task forces
10. | Opportunity to learn more about the disease of addictions—a less known specialty of nursing
11. | Nurses are given greater authority in dealing with patients
